About Monterey

Monterey is a proud neighborhood school that fosters a strong sense of community and partnership as we walk together with students and families to support and educate every child.

As a Nationally Accredited Leader in Me school, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive, safe learning environment for all students. Our core beliefs are built around five leadership paradigms:

  • Every child can be a leader.
  • Every child possesses genius within.
  • Change begins with me.
  • Educators empower students to lead their own learning.
  • We nurture the development of the whole child.

At Monterey Community School, we explore these leadership paradigms through a transformational framework focused on effective practices and meaningful results. Our approach emphasizes leadership and learning by:

  • Building a culture of trust and engagement.
  • Empowering students to take charge of their lives and make a positive impact on others.
  • Providing tools and opportunities for students to reach their goals and dreams.
  • Cultivating student voice and ownership.

Through these experiences and leadership opportunities, our students make a difference in our community and beyond.

Learning at Monterey is hands-on and personalized because we recognize that each student learns differently. We focus on understanding what students already know and what they need to learn, based on the Colorado Academic Standards.  This approach helps us close learning gaps quickly and supports our advanced learners in reaching their full potential.

Beyond core academics, Monterey students in grades K-8 receive social skills instruction and emotional support through Olweus, a nationally recognized program. This resource helps students develop lifelong skills such as conflict resolution, friendship building, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Our families are an essential part of our school community. We invite you to collaborate with us and participate in events like fall carnivals, dances, family goal setting events, field trips, and more.

We’d love for you to visit and tour our school! To schedule a tour, please contact us at 303.853.1361. We look forward to welcoming you into the wonderful Monterey family!
