About Monterey
Monterey Community School
A Community School
Students are at the HEART of everything that we do!
Monterey is a proud neighborhood school that encourages our community to walk alongside each other as we support and educate every child. We are a Nationally Accredited Leader in Me school committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and emotionally and physically safe. Our beliefs center around five paradigms of leadership:
-
Every child can be a leader.
-
Every child has genius inside of them.
-
Change starts with me first.
-
Educators can empower students to lead their own learning
-
We develop the whole child.
Literacy instruction is delivered through a workshop model using the Colorado Academic Standards. Social studies and science content are embedded into literacy and numeracy units at the elementary level and fully explored at the middle school level. Math instruction focuses on a rigorous, cohesive progression of fundamental skills, critical thinking, and conceptual understanding. All academic instruction at Monterey is focused on our mission of growing capable and confident learners that are prepared and able to excel in an ever-changing world.
Learning at Monterey is experiential, and we understand that one size does not fit all. Rather, we take time to build our understanding around what a student understands and what they need to learn based on the rigor of the Colorado Academic Standards. This allows us to close learning gaps quickly while accelerating our advanced learners to ensure academic achievement.
In addition to strong core academic instruction, Monterey students K-8 learn social skills and receive emotional support through Olweus. This nationally recognized resource provides direct instruction to develop life-long skills such as conflict resolution, friendship development, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.
Monterey families are an integral part of our school community. We welcome collaboration and involvement in our parent-teacher organization and community events such as fall carnivals, dances, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, field trips, and much more.
We encourage you to come visit us and take a tour of our school. To set up a tour, please contact us at (303)853-1361. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our amazing Monterey family.
